Outside of the capital of London, this picturesque city steeped in history has the highest rent in England.

St Albans in Hertfordshire is a popular commuter city as it is less than an hour away on the train from Central London.

Rightmove analysed average rents in more than 50 cities throughout Britain For anyone wanting to rent a property here, it doesn’t come at a cheap price. Shockingly, tenants in the area pay an average of £2,307 per month which is 71 percent above the national average, BBC reports.

The most affordable cities in Britain are in the north of England, says Rightmove. Carlisle has been ranked as the best value at £791 per month.

Research by Rightmove showed that the highest rents were generally in the south east of England.

Outside of this area, Edinburgh and Bristol were also among the highest rent prices.

Properties in St. Albans had an overall average price of £639,883 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

Overall, sold prices in St. Albans over the last year were 4% down on the previous year and 3% up on the 2021 peak of £623,447.

The city has been listed as one of the nicest places to live in the UK. It is often celebrated for its picturesque charm and rich historical heritage.

With its blend of ancient Roman architecture, medieval streets, and lush green parks, St Albans offers a unique and idyllic living experience.
