Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has issued an urgent product recall, warning customers to “not eat” two of its products due to potential allergy risks. The products reportedly contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label.
The supermarket has recalled the Yorkshire Provender Jacket and Toast Topper Mexican Inspired Lentil Chilli and the Yorkshire Provender Jacket and Toast Topper Haricot Beans in a Spicy Tomato Sauce over health concerns. The Yorkshire Provender, best-known for their hearty soups, has a range of new products like the Jacket and Toast Topper.
According to the website only 300g products with the use by date of 16/10/24 and SKU codes 8202769 & 8204887 are affected, so Sainsbury’s customers are being urged to check their cupboards, and if they have the product with matching use by dates and SKU codes not to consume it but to instead return it to the store they purchased it from.
In a statement, Sainsbury’s said: “If you have purchased one of the affected products with these codes and you suffer from an intolerance to peanuts, please do not eat it. Instead, please return the product to any Sainsburys store for a full refund or contact the consumer services team at:consumercare@haindaniels.com / 0800 0014409.”
This comes on the heels of another major supermarket removing pesto pots from their shelves after discovering they were contaminated with salmonella, advising customers against consuming them. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning, leading to unpleasant symptoms such as diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
Young children and individuals over 65 are particularly susceptible to severe illness resulting from food poisoning caused by salmonella.
Recently a recall alert issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Waitrose was recalling No1 Pesto alla Genovese because salmonella has been found in the products. Products with a ‘use by’ date of September 26 are affected., reports The Sun.
The major supermarket chain warned consumers who’ve bought the pasta sauce pots not to eat their contents, or risk getting food poisoning. Instead, Waitrose advised customers to package the items up and return them to their local branch for a full refund.
The FSA warned: “Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused,” the chain said in a point-of-sale notice to customers.”
