The Met Office has warned of delays to journeys in England and Wales on Monday morning – as the first widespread fog of Autumn rolls in.
The forecaster has issued a five-hour yellow weather warning for an area of North West England, the West Midlands and Wales for Monday morning (September 16).
The warning is in force from 5am until 10am and covers sections of major roads including the M6.
The Met Office weather warning states: “It is looking like one of the first occasions in autumn 2024 when we will see more widespread fog developing overnight and lasting well into the morning.
“Some of this could be quite dense, making journey times longer.”
The Met Office advised drivers to check the forecast for their area – and to ensure they are prepared for their journeys.
The warning added: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, leaving extra journey time, or amending plans if necessary.
“Make sure you know how to switch on your fog lights, and check they are working before setting off on your journey.
“Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel may also be affected; check for updates from your travel company and follow their advice.”
The fog is set to clear by late on Monday morning, with the latest Met Office forecast stating: “Fog clearing through the morning, with cloud breaking up for most areas, leaving plenty of prolonged sunny periods.
“Feeling warm in the sunshine with light winds.”
The forecast for between Tuesday and Thursday states: ” High pressure remains across the UK, providing mostly settled and dry conditions. Warm sunny intervals by day, though some cool nights with areas of further fog possible.”
