Birmingham has been dubbed the ‘UK’s Wuhan’ by American singer Azealia Banks in a dig against a popular fish market.

Well known for her single 212 which peaked within the UK top 40, the American singer was left unimpressed with her visit to Bull Ring Indoor Market.

One of the UK’s largest fish markets, the market sells a variety of meat and poultry, fruit and vegetables, clothing and a variety of household goods.

However, Azealia Banks, known for her fiery personality, was left unimpressed with the market’s offerings, comparing it to Wuhan.

The singer went on X to claim to her 108k followers that she caught something just being in the market and has spent two days “bathing, massaging and drinking tea” to sweat it out.

Calling the market “putrid” Azealia Banks even called on officials to “do something about the fish market” in her scathing attack.

Her full tweet read: “Sidebar. The city officials in Birmingham, UK, need to do something about the fish market at the Bullring Market.

“It’s giving putrid pathogen Wuhan wet market tease and just being in there I caught some s***.

“Just spent two days bathing, massaging, drinking tea, sweating this s*** out. That’s not cool b.”

Many social media users rushed to the comments to share their views on Azealia’s bold statements which has amassed 417k views.

One user blamed Azealia’s sickness on the current change in seasons.

@Queenie_2312 said: “Azealia there’s nothing wrong with the rag market. It’s been there longer than you have been alive.

“There is a change in weather here and lots of people are ill. The change of summer to winter really knocks some people about. So you probably caught a cold/flu. Get well.”

Whilst @rainingclitter wrote: “Girl what do you expect you went to a fish market in Birmingham.”

@HaiboIsland said: “Welcome to England babe x.”
