A careers expert revealed the things you should say during a job interview to leave a lasting impression.

The key to a good interview was revealed by leadwithlouise, a TikTok careers advisor who had some solid advice for those gunning for a new job.

Her advice for those aiming to get a senior job or leadership role was sounded out in a post to the site.

Louise’s pointers for those potential candidates left members of the public that little bit more prepared, with key pointers on what to ask an interviewer and why the questions are so important.

A description of the TikTok read: “Don’t forget that a job interview (particularly at a senior level) is a two way process and exchange. You want to make sure the role is the right fit for you, as well as them making sure you are the right fit for them!”

Her five questions were revealed, with the content creator urging those in interview scenarios to make the most of the end questions as it was the “perfect opportunity to leave a lasting impression”. She added: “Asking the right questions, really powerful questions that show just how much you understand the culture, the brief, the job, is one way to make sure you can really stand out.”

Louise continued: “Number one is my favourite, if you’re interviewing for a senior role or a leadership position. What does success look like for me in this role? What does good look like? What does outstanding look like? What are the outcomes that you want me to achieve in this role?”

Number two was a more “revealing” question, with Louise saying: “Is this a newly created role or are you replacing somebody? Could you tell me a little bit more in what you are looking for in their replacement.”

A third question for potential candidates was “how is performance measured here, what does the performance review process look like, what does success look like for me in this role?” as it “ensure the interviewing panel knows you are focused on getting results and performing at your best.

Louise suggested taking this question further, by saying: “Talk to me about the first ninety to one hundred days in this role, what would you be looking for in your new hire?” Further questions from the career expert were simpler questions for the panel and future boss including “the one thing they are looking for in a successful candidate?”

Her final suggestion was another “revealing” question which was “what do you love about working here?” The suggestion was made to gauge some “natural” answers from people who “genuinely enjoy working at the company. If there is any sense of hesitation or really rehearsed answers, or people are nervously shooting looks at each other, it’s an orange flag for you to think about.”
