TV personality turned farmer Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire from some attendees of his new pub, The Farmer’s Dog.
Clarkson opened the pub at the end of August, just a couple of weeks ago, in Oxfordshire. Many flocked to the country pub on opening day and the presenter was there to welcome them.
Yet there are already some negative reviews on TripAdvisor, including one customer claiming their visit was a “rip off”.
W Robinson said: “Charged £2 to park your car in a field £18.50 for a cold burger and a few fries served on a paper plate, Clarkson is taking the piss. NEVER AGAIN.”
It’s not the only review to complain about the £2 car parking charge, Pete C was also unhappy.
He said: “We arrived and parked in a field and got charged £2 before we even set foot in the door. Upon ordering drinks for me my wife and son, who was 19 years old, had 2 ciders 1 larger and a soft drink for my teenage daughter.
“Unfortunately [my son] didn’t bring his wallet down with him with his driving licence in it because it was a spur-of-the-moment calling in, so I said it’s fine so I tried to place 2 soft drinks and 1 cider for my wife and 1 larger for me.”
However, according to the customer, the staff accused him of trying to give his son an alcoholic drink despite being refused one due to lack of ID.
“And the young girl at the back of the bar refused to serve me any alcohol at all, suggesting that I was going to give him my drink when we walked away.
“I’m now the ripe old age of 50 and someone refusing me a drink is damaging, especially when there’s a line of customers behind me, so I said my piece before I left very disappointed.”
There are just 16 reviews for The Farmer’s Dog so far on TripAdvisor, and the majority of them are positive.
Bspeaks49 said: “Really enjoyed our visit. We had to park in the overflow car park and were charged £2 but there were notices to the effect that this money went directly to the local farmer for the use of his field so no problem with that.
“After our meal, which was delicious, we queued to get into the pub for a drink. We didn’t have to wait too long and it was worth it. The staff were all lovely and friendly even though they rushed off their feet.
“Just one small criticism- two tiny cubicles in the ladies’ toilets is simply not enough especially as there was hardly any space to queue and the one-hand dryer was useless. The shop area was small but well stocked.”
Another reviewer, Pippinsfolly said: “The menu is what you might expect from a good pub and it didn’t disappoint. The quality of ingredients was excellent and the hard-working staff were so welcoming and attentive. Of course, the beer and cider were wonderful, chilled and thirst quenching.”
Jeremy Clarkson open the pub between in Oxfordshire between Burford and Witney, after being refused the necessary planning permission to build a restaurant on his Diddly Squat Farm.
On the pub’s website, it says “It’s not just a pub, it’s a whole day experience”.
There is already a list of people who have been banned from the pub, and that includes Keir Starmer and James May.
When asked why the Prime Minister was banned from The Farmer’s Dog on Times Radio, Clarkson said: “He hasn’t done much to endear himself to me yet.”
