Homecoming extravaganza for Britain’s Paralympic heroes | UK | News

Britain’s Paralympic heroes will be the stars of a homecoming extravaganza this week as the nation celebrates their stunning success in Paris.

A glittering parade and show will feature the athletes, as well as performances from Craig David, Caity Baser, Jonas Blue and Sugababes.

The National Lottery’s ParalympicsGB Homecoming gala is being staged at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Thursday and hosted by The Last Leg presenters Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker.

It is being put on as a celebration of our stunning success on the biggest stage of all, and a thank you to the great British public who, through playing the National Lottery, have enabled our athletes to triumph.

One fifth of the proceeds from lotto tickets and scratch cards has been given to sport since it started in 1994 including UK Sport, which funds training and facilities for 1,000 UK Olympic and Paralympians.

The event will be broadcast on Channel 4 on September 14.

Aussie comedian Adam, 54, who was born without a right foot and wears a prosthesis, said: “Having chatted with many Paralympians in recent years, we know how dedicated they have been on their journey to Paris and how much difference the support of National Lottery players makes to their ability to get to the Games. The event will be a wonderful moment to recognise the accomplishments of this year’s athletes as they return home, as well as thanking players for their role in helping them achieve that success.”

Team GB took 215 athletes to the Games, including 99 female athletes. Among them was history-making Dame Sarah Storey, 46, competing in her ninth Paralympic Games, who became the most successful and decorated British Paralympian of all time after winning her 19th Paralympic gold medal in the cycling road race.

Overall, Team GB won 47 gold medals and overall ParalympicsGB were second only to China in the medals table.

The spectacular Paralympics finished last night <>.
