Free speech activists claim they were kicked out of a pub in Hove after a speaker said children shouldn’t be taught trans ideology in schools.

Group members from Free Speech Brighton claim they were ordered out of The Southern Belle hotel and pub during an event on Tuesday (September 17).

According to a Facebook user who attended the meeting, the group members were “quiet and well-behaved”, but less than an hour into the event they were forced to leave by personnel from Pagoda Security, allegedly because they talked about “gender reality”.

The Facebook user added in a post on the platform: “They then followed us to our next meeting place in a pub and made us break up the regrouping of maybe ten people. Absolutely amazed at the reality of thought-policing in this country right now.”

According to the Telegraph, a staff member at The Southern Belle reportedly disapproved of one of the speeches about the teaching of gender ideology and asked security guards to throw out the group.

The Southern Belle and Pagoda Security have been approached for comment.

A splinter group of the Free Speech Union, Free Speech Brighton booked a room at the pub where members made speeches.

The first speech was reportedly made by a retired teacher who argued gender ideology shouldn’t be taught in schools.

Gender ideology is a contested, catch-all term for a system of beliefs, including that a person’s gender can differ from their sex at birth.

A woman in her fifties argued for 15 minutes that parents should ask what their children are being taught about sex education at school and should be allowed to see the materials used, according to the Telegraph.

While taking questions, five security guards reportedly entered the venue and asked the group to go.

Group chairman Laura King wrote in a Facebook post: “There was a rush of security guards coming into the room and demanding that we left.

“I said we had just finished listening to that speech and that there were two more on completely different subjects but they said the landlord had said we had to leave.

“One of them tried to grab the speaker and drag it out of the room, which was still plugged in.”

Ms King said group members stood their ground for several minutes, insisting on being allowed to finish their drinks first.
