Chamiah Brindley, who tragically died following a fire at her home in Bedale Drive, Leicester, has been pictured for the first time.
The child was killed in the horrific blaze that took hold of the property at around 4am on September 10. Emergency services were alerted of the fire at around 4.08am.
Tributes started to pour in for the “beautiful” child on Wednesday, and many friends and local residents headed to the scene of the tragedy to leave floral tributes, toys and cards.
One poignant message read: “You are the sweetest, you will be missed.”
A second said: “Rest in peace beautiful little girl. Taken tragically too soon.”
One neighbour, who declined to be named, told The Sun: “It is a very tight-knit community and many of us know the little girl who has died, Chamiah Brindley.
“She’s from a big loving family with lots of brothers and sisters and went to the nearby primary school. She’s a beautiful little girl and adored by her mum. My heart goes out to them all. It is a terrible thing to happen.”
Another neighbour recalled the horrifying event, saying she woke up in the early hours of Tuesday to see “firelight through the curtains”.
Leicestershire Police said that a number of people, understood to be family members, were taken to hospital for treatment as “a precaution” following the fire.
Tributes come as a 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident. She has since been released on bail.
A force spokesperson said: “Whilst an arrest has been made, detectives are keeping an open mind and are working closely with colleagues from the fire service to establish the full circumstances leading up to the incident.”
Detective Inspector Michael Chandler said: “This is an extremely tragic incident in which a person has sadly lost their life.
“Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are keeping an open mind as to what caused the fire.
“A dedicated team is carrying out enquiries and we are working closely with the fire service to fully establish what has happened and how it has happened.
“Specially trained officers are also continuing to provide full support to the family of the deceased.”
