Britons have been the new farmer tax imposed by Rachel Reeves in the Labour Budget could send the price of one popular English Breakfast item soaring.

The new “farmer tax” is not welcomed by many who see the new rules as the death of the family farm. To object the tax, farmers could stage mass protests.

But in a huge blow to many, British sausages could rise in price, reports The Sun.

Jeremy Clarkson has spoken out against the new rules. He said: “Farmers, I know that you have been shafted. But please don’t despair. Just look after yourselves for five short years and this shower will be gone.”

The Sun reported that Mo Metcalf-Fisher, from The Countryside Alliance, said: “Losing farms would be a catastrophe, we can’t risk undermining our own food security.

“Costs for everyday British favourites like bangers could well be impacted as a result and we’d be relying more and more on foreign imports.”

Under rules effective from April 2026, the first £1million of combined agricultural and business assets will remain fully exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT).

But for any assets above this threshold, IHT will apply at an effective rate of 20% due to a 50% relief on the standard tax 40% rate.

Farmers have always been able to pass on agricultural land free from official levies.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves argued that three-quarters of farms would not be affected.

The Evening Standard reported that hundreds of farmers are to hold a major demonstration in central London amid rising fury at the Government’s decision to “double down” on an inheritance tax raid on their land.
