A couple’s humorous tale of revenge on their overbearing neighbour has captured attention online after they shared their frustrations on Reddit.
The story, posted on the subreddit r/pettyrevenge, details the bizarre interactions between the couple and their neighbour, which culminated in a “petty” but satisfying act of defiance.
The couple had purchased their first home, a “lovely little 3-bed semi” with a front patio. While most of their neighbours were friendly, one proved to be overbearing, particularly when it came to the couple’s garden.
The Redditor shared how, soon after moving in, the neighbour complained about their trees overhanging into her garden. Not wanting to cause any tension, the couple trimmed the trees, only for the neighbour to later complain about losing her privacy when one tree was cut down completely.
The issues continued when the neighbour expressed her disapproval over the couple painting their garden shed, claiming it would bother her.
“I couldn’t believe it. The audacity of someone telling me I can’t paint my shed a colour I want in my garden because she would have to see it,” the poster explained.
The situation escalated when the couple was told they couldn’t paint their side of the fence between the two properties. After trying to be polite for over a year and a half, the couple finally had enough.
With her partner on board, the poster gleefully decided to paint the shed purple, ignoring the neighbour’s protests.
“I will wait till she is in to do it with my AirPods on full so I can’t hear her complaining,” she wrote.
The neighbour, unsurprisingly, did not take the colourful transformation well. Upon seeing the freshly painted shed, she hovered in her garden, eventually offering to paint the back of the shed white, which was met with a firm refusal.
“This rudeness has finally gotten to me and I cannot deal with it,” the poster declared, adding plans to borrow a pallet truck to pull the shed out and paint it entirely purple.
The Reddit community was quick to rally behind the couple, with comments pouring in to support their stance.
“She is a bully – good that you have stopped giving into her whims. Hope that you can start commenting on how she should maintain her yard too,” one user wrote.
Another user encouraged the couple to embrace their newfound independence, writing: “After a year and a half of trying to keep the peace, you have learned that no good deed goes unpunished. Do to your garden whatever makes you happy. Also – complain about HER fence non-stop.”
Others suggested ways to take the revenge even further, with one commenting: “Paint huge googly eyes on the back of the shed to bring it up a notch!”
